EMPOWERMENT
PORTRAITURE
BY NICK HOLMES

Images made in
the fleeting flicker
between
the practiced and
prescribed selves.
Black and white,
guilded
unguarded;
glimmering.
Yours.

Why These Portraits Matter These sessions began with a realization: That portraiture, as I’d come to practice it, is not about appearance—but about agency. After photographing artists, actors, and survivors for years, I witnessed what unfolds when someone feels safe, seen, and unhurried in the face of a revealing inner challenge. Empowerment Portraiture is the result. Most clients are not performers or public figures. They are doctors, lawyers, public servants, and seekers—people navigating difficult milestones or celebrating long-awaited ones. These portraits are quiet refusals of expectation. They honor the stories we carry—and the ones we’re still writing. Some clients have come on the recommendation of therapists, not as a prescription—but as a practice of presence. In that validation, this work has quietly rippled from one healing process to the next. I’m not a doctor or a trained professional in any psychological field—just a fellow seeker who’s found a way to be of service. This work isn’t clinical; it’s connective. It offers a space that holds what words sometimes can’t. The camera is just a witness. The moment belongs to you.
What is this about? It’s not about posing. It’s about presence. These sessions are a space for self-expression, self-acceptance, or quiet reclamation. You set the tone. Shot in black and white, often with minimal or no clothing, these images are made for you. Whether you’re healing, marking a moment, or simply claiming your image for yourself, what results is often as powerful as the process.
Do I have to be nude? Not at all. The goal is comfort, not performance. Most people wear what makes them feel at ease—robes, lingerie, or nothing at all. It’s your call.
Where does it happen? Most sessions take place at *The Workshop*—my garage studio in the Hollywood Hills, designed for privacy and creative control. Some prefer to shoot in homes, hotel rooms, or other personal spaces. We’ll find what feels right.
Will the images be shared? Only with your written permission. Your privacy is absolute.
