A Newtonian Tribute

Power. Shadow. Skin. Intent. This cat is a hero to me. Helmut Newton's work—brash, erotic, unapologetically stylized—was never just fashion photography. It was confrontation. Glamour with teeth. Eroticism with intellect.

Below is a few shots from a recent portrait session in '23 with April. I revisited it recently to find these images (somehow) overlooked from my initial review. Shot in stark light, deliberate shadows, and designed for maximum presence, these portraits are part tribute, part personal exploration.

Newton had the coolest edge. We were aiming for some of that.

Empowerment, in Every Frame

My work is rooted in something I call Empowerment Portraiture—a practice that invites a human to be photographed not as decoration, but as declaration. Newton’s aesthetic, for all its provocation, was never about softness. It was about presence. That aligns closely with what I try to capture: power that doesn’t ask for permission.

Whether clothed or not, whether confronting the lens or turning from it, each subject is in command of her image. That’s the enduring gift of Newton’s visual language. It dares us to ask—who gets to look, and who gets to choose how they're seen?

Why This Matters Now

In a world saturated with filters, retouching, and curated performance, there’s something revolutionary about raw elegance—about shadowed skin, bold lighting, and the unapologetic stare. This is where fashion meets fine art. Where editorial meets intimacy. Where timeless becomes timely again.

If you’re drawn to bold portraiture, Newton-style glamour, or empowerment through the lens—explore more here.
